Every program traces back to the same youth pipeline that has powered Young Eagle since 1996.
The sport Young Eagle was built on. What started as a 10-player team in 1996 became champion of its very first tournament in 1997, and has been beaten only three times since. Our football program still runs through the Golden Eagle (5–10) and Flying Eagle (11–14) age groups feeding into the senior Young Eagle side.
Established in 1998 to empower women in sport, our Bashi team quickly became — alongside the football side — one of the two dominant forces in Thulhaadhoo sport. Young Eagle has been champion of all three Bashi tournaments it has entered.
Our fastest-growing program, and now our most successful. After introducing handball to Thulhaadhoo women in January 2020 and training over 90 participants across multiple community sessions, we opened the Handball Academy in March 2021 with 21 players — the first handball academy on any island outside Kulhudhuffushi City.
Open to ages 5–16, with three training sessions a week. Our national teams debuted in 2022 reaching the Round of 16 at the Handball Maldives Championship — and have since gone all the way, winning back-to-back National Handball Tournament titles: the Women's team took the 10th edition's Division 2 crown in January 2024, and the Men's team followed with the 11th edition's Division 2 title in November 2024.
Young Eagle was the first club from Thulhaadhoo to compete in a national tournament, entering the 36th National Swimming Championship of the Maldives Swimming Association. Competing against the established Life Guard Association and Sifainge Club, our all-Thulhaadhoo team — many of them fresh school leavers — took 3rd place. The tradition of punching above our weight in the pool continues, with a recent bronze medal in the Division 1 Men's national tournament.
Our newest sporting addition, and an instant success. On 18th August 2023, Young Eagle entered the 32nd National Carrom Tournament's Team Event, Men's Division, for the very first time — and won it outright, the first National Gold Medal ever won by a team from Thulhaadhoo. We've since added a Division 1 Men's silver medal too.
Born out of a friendly match for our 20th Anniversary in 2016, our volleyball program gave Thulhaadhoo youths their first taste of competing in Male' — entering the VAM 2nd Division Volleyball tournament that same year purely to build exposure and experience for local players.
Launched in Male' on 28th April with 11 children aged 5–10 (more than half of Thulhaadhoo's population lives in Male'), YDP is completely free — and we intend to keep it that way. Coaches are 1st Division players from Thulhaadhoo, guest coaches (often high-ranking national officials and players) visit once a month, and every child and coach receives a jersey despite tight finances.
YDP finally launched in Thulhaadhoo itself in November 2020 after years of pitch delays, drawing 42 participants in its first three days. Our related "Discipline through Sports" campaign asks YDP players to build daily habits — including completing all five daily prayers during Ramazaan and reciting the Quran — alongside their football training.
